Asian Americans for Equality, Inc. (AAFE) is a non-profit organization dedicated to enriching the lives of Asian Americans and all of those who are in need. Founded in 1974, AAFE has become one of New York’s preeminent housing, social service, education, advocacy, community and economic development organizations.
AAFE intended to redevelop a property it owns through an affiliate, Queens Housing and Immigration Center Corporation, in Flushing, Queens. The 13,388 square foot site at 133-04 39th Avenue, Flushing, NY was acquired in 2004 by Asian Americans for Equality. AAFE envisioned developing a mixed-use commercial building, approximately 8-stories in height, with underground parking, that will provide Class A offices, community facility space for not-for-profit leasing, and ground floor commercial retail opportunities to encourage entrepreneurship through local retail.
JFK&M is working with JCJ Architecture and providing full MEP/FP engineering design services for the new AAFE mixed-use building with underground parking. JFK&M has completed the design of the core and shell for the modern, sustainable, commercial building that features 8,000 square feet of retail space on the ground floor, 37,489 square feet of office space in the upper floors, and 18,743 square feet of community use space. There are also two levels of underground parking that will provide approximately 80 new parking spaces using parking stackers. Fit-out design is complete for the ground floor and the remaining design will continue during the construction of the core and shell.
